Our office performs a wide range of dental services to both adults and children. The vast majority of dental restorations (fillings) are provided with tooth colored composite resin. Our aim is to restore smiles with the optimum aesthetic result. For those patients that anxious or fearful of dental procedures we have the ability to use nitrous oxide analgesia to assist along with local anesthesia to give the patient a very comfortable experience.
For those patients that require more extensive restoration we provide an assortment of very aesthetic options ranging from ceramic porcelain, zirconia, or porcelain bonded to metal crowns and bridges. Cosmetic bonding and porcelain laminate vaneers give long lasting and beautiful results.
Areas of missing teeth can be resored with implants, fixed bridges, removable partial dentures, complete dentures, or implant retained dentures. Options are discussed and it is always the solution that the patient decides best serves their needs that we aim for.
Another condition that affects both adults and children is bruxism. The Bible has described the “gnashing of teeth” usually as a result of despair on the part of a Biblical figure. In contemporary time teeth grinding at night has been blamed on emotional stress but that’s not the whole story.
Particularly in children bruxism can result from upper airway restriction as in adenoiditis, nasal septal deviations, and allergic rhinitis. We sometime see a familial pattern with children of adult bruxers demonstrating the same behavior.
A processed hard acrylic appliance is fabricated which has shown to lessen both the frequency and duration of bruxism each night. The appliance also protects the teeth, jaw joint, and muscles from the damage associated from bruxism. We do not recommend the soft athletic mouth guard type of appliances for bruxism as the approximation to the opposing teeth is seldom accurately adjusted which, in itself, can be a focus for other problems.
